This game looks like a draw (move 21 ) even if Karjakin wins a pawn, with the opposite colour bishops.

Carlsen seemingly a bit jealous of Karjakin having all the fun and has decided to get in on the act himself.

Seems like Karjakin is jealousy guarding the right to suffer though
(Don't suppose there was ever any risk of white getting anywhere there.).

I think this chess is at such a high level that any sniff of a chance of a position where one player can make headway is avoided at all costs. The games which could have been decisive have been the result of very high level errors, beyond the perception of most of us. Its a bit like many World Cup finals in football - very dour affairs decided by a single late goal, possibly in extra time. We will not see an unbalanced Sicilian, less still castling on opposite sides, etc. The risk of losing far outweighs the risk of winning.

Not sure that's quite true. I didn't understand Karjakin's Bxh6 sac and he confirmed afterwards that it was just a mistake.Graham Borrowdale wrote: The games which could have been decisive have been the result of very high level errors, beyond the perception of most of us.

we would be seeing a different match if, say, MVL was the challenger. If there is a fault in the system it is maybe that the candidates format seems to favour tough, risk adverse players.
Still, I'm enjoying the match, and I'd rather have a stable system with minor faults than the mess than preceded it.

Good grief, now we will discuss whether this is the first Colle in a world Championship (maybe some Alekhine match?) ...

Avoiding preparation I assume and just play.

Well, he got his first ever (classical) win over Giri playing it.

Alekhine - Euwe in 1935 game 17. Euwe played what used to be supposed the "book" equaliser of 3. .. Bf5.Jonathan Rogers wrote:Good grief, now we will discuss whether this is the first Colle in a world Championship (maybe some Alekhine match?) ...
There were 28 examples of the position after 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3 at Bournemouth this year, 5 in the Championship.
Under a misleading title, here's what the forum thought about it a couple of years ago.

Nearly got itself incredibly interesting on move 19 but Karjakin didn't like it. They are at least managing to keep a good number of pieces alive for a lot longer this time.
