Makes a draw with Black with best play, maybe.

Which position are you talking about? The current position (after 23...Rf2+) is just won for Black.John Moore wrote:Makes a draw with Black with best play, maybe.

Caruana is thinking so much...presumably thinking of resigning now

Well the piece sac is just a draw isn't it. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

The only piece Caruana has in play is his king. (Well, almost.)

Ah, you meant the initial sacrifice of the bishop on f8? 21.Bg5 was better than what was played (21.f6), but to be fair to Caruana, it is not an easy position to work out (but surely he should have prepared this position?).John Moore wrote:Well the piece sac is just a draw isn't it. And there are still plenty of chances for Adams to go wrong. In the current position the Houdini engine is saying that 26...Rd8+ (which has just been played) is -2.71, while 26...Rh3 is 'only' -0.91.
EDIT: Surely won now, after 27...Rxc3+.

26... Rd8+ is nice as if 27 Kc2 then ... Rxc3+ wins a piece.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:... there are still plenty of chances for Adams to go wrong. In the current position the Houdini engine is saying that 26...Rd8+ (which has just been played) is -2.71, while 26...Rh3 is 'only' -0.91.

If? Do you mean when, as Fab has just played it....Angus French wrote:26... Rd8+ is nice as if 27 Kc2 then ... Didn't Mickey beat Caruana with black a few months ago?

Chris. you may be watching one of the great games by a British player. White can make a draw in some positions but Black is always fine out of the opening.

3 pawns up against Caruana.
Even I could take over now!

It's only really two but I'm sure Mickey would have taken this at the startstevencarr wrote:3 pawns up against Caruana.

True. In the real classics, though, the loser resigns at the right moment. Caruana will be two pawns down and I'm not quite sure where any saving chances for him can be found.John Moore wrote:Chris. you may be watching one of the great games by a British player. The Chessbomb comments are still hilarious:
"all the english players always say Adams is a boss"
(the younger generation having to be reminded how Adams was in the top 10 for many years).
