Ah, you meant the initial sacrifice of the bishop on f8? 21.Bg5 was better than what was played (21.f6), but to be fair to Caruana, it is not an easy position to work out (but surely he should have prepared this position?).

And there are still plenty of chances for Adams to go wrong. In the current position the Houdini engine is saying that 26...Rd8+ (which has just been played) is -2.71, while 26...Rh3 is 'only' -0.91.

Which makes it all the more surprising he played Kc2 Admittedly Ke2 seems to lose tactically. I wonder what he missed from move 21 onwards when playing this line

True. In the real classics, though, the loser resigns at the right moment. Caruana will be two pawns down and I'm not quite sure where any saving chances for him can be found.
