The British Chess Forum

Post by Gerard Killoran » Fri Oct 02, 2026 11:56 am

The latest (September) edition of the BCM is promoting a rival to this wonderful site - and it's called the British Chess Forum.

You can find it here https://www.britishchessforum.com/

I'd advise you to steer clear of the Politics and Philosophy section, as it contains one of the most eyebrow-raising posts on the subject of racism I've ever seen. Most moderators would hit the delete button pretty sharpish after reading a few lines, but in this case it appears to be written by the moderator.

I am all for variety but somehow I cannot see this new site catching on, although I have to accept that this place lacks the vivacity of old.

It appears to have one prominent member who some on here may remember…

Presumably this thread:

Racism is evil yet understandable

I will inform the owners (Stephen Lowe and Shaun Taulbut) of BCM in case they are not aware of what they are promoting.

Is that where all those blocked and barred from this site now go to?

I see Shaun fairly often at Crowthorne Chess Club but I take your point!

I don't think ecforum blocks and bars very often. People sometimes bar themselves when they get a hostile reception to their rants and spam. In any event the new forum only seems to have 11 members including the owner/webmaster.

Alan has always had "interesting" opinions on various topics. His bark really is worse than his bite though.

Anyone seeing ALs nutty posts will most likely be put off joining. Perhaps he does not realise that.

Not a new "Other Place" didn't they try this about 10 years ago? I seem to remember it folded inside a year.
