News has reached me of the passing of Tom Stonehouse. Tom was both a fine chess and bridge player, at the peak of his powers he was graded about 190 ECF. He played for various chess clubs in the Medway towns finally with the Rainham Club for about 35 years plus he played for Kent in inter-County matches. Mobility issues forced him to retire from the OTB game in 2020 although he continued to play online. He also has a spell in New Zealand in the 1970's-80's when he played in the Auckland area.

Tom was also active in chess administration with posts including Chairman of Rainham and Tournament Secretary for the Kent League.
