The Southend Masters took place 17th to 21st April 2025. Pawel Teclaf won the GM event with 6.5/9. FM Alex Golding and FM Sohum Lohia (his final one) both made IM norms in the GM tournament
Well done Alex & Sohum

Excellent news. First IM norm for Alex? Presumably Sohum still needs the rating? Any spectacular games (from anyone)? I see Alex has made one previous IM norm in July last year (Mindsports event).
EDIT2: all superseded by Jack and Mick's updates below.

Final norm for Alex (he got norms in consecutive events at Bridgend and Hammersmith last year) and he's already achieved the rating.

Sohum was above 2400 in August and September, so presumably that's the title; Alex appears to be a 3rd norm too, and was over 2400 from September to December, so ditto

Thanks Jack and Mick. One for the quiz thread: when was the last time two or more ENG players secured their titles at the same event?

Yes, final norms and ratings already published over 2400 so hopefully their applications will be processed along with Matthew Wadsworth's GM title.

Lovely photos. Not a smile to be seen though - very serious business, playing chess!
Good to see the live positions projected on a screen.
