Commentator for Isle of Wight Masters 18 - 23 Feb

Post by Dave Lightfoot » Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:35 am

Hi all,

Is anyone interested in commentating or can suggest recommendations. We have someone doing player interviews and recaps for social. I am 50/50 on if it's worth having live commentary as I think these historically don't get many viewers.

Having said that, the venue has a 250 seat cinema where players can rest after matches and families can wait. So if anyone is up for commentating I can provide a couple of camera feeds and the live games. This could be done from home and the feed can be broadcast into the theatre.

Please email me on [email protected] if interested. Can pay, just not a lot. Can possibly give you some free DGT stuff and a few nights hotel stay at the final weekend.

I might be interested. Haven't done live commentary before and it would be another thing to add to my repertoire.

At the speed Jack plays he should be able to do both.

Not strictly commentary, but I do remember a couple of times hearing Jack talk through his (usually rapidly completed!) games with a commentator in front of an audience and/or with a demo board. Very entertaining.

One consideration for commentary is if you are putting up a single commentator (some can do this well, and avoid droning on) or a pairing (some people work best in conversational mode, each complementing the other)?

If a commentator is present at the venue, that gives scope for post game interviews where one or both the players talks through the game and shares their thoughts.

One other point though. If broadcasting a feed externally to outside the venue, make sure the video and particularly the audio are up to scratch. Built in webcams and microphones can struggle with this as the ECF used to find out to adverse criticsm at British Championships.

A very good point. There should be enough reasonably qualified people around to jump in. Perhaps we can do this live in the theatre for the final weekend at least.
