Olomouc International
England's Jonah Willow doing very well at Olomouc, with a 2 point lead after 7 of the 9 rounds.

Probably the two most difficult opponents left to play however.

Jonah may be regretting the 12-move draw yesterday. Looking like he will need to win tomorrow.

Re: Olomouc International
Not the current position, but Jonah thought for a long time about 42...g6. I wonder if he was considering 42...e4. It may well be if not absolutely certainly drawing, have been the best (and probably last) chance to salvage a draw.

Re: Olomouc International
Jonah won the tournament which is a decent achievement but narrowly missed the norm
Am I remembering correctly that he has narrowly missed norms before? I suppose that's inevitable when you are at, or close to, the strength of IM and then GM

I may be forgetting some but the only previous time where I felt a norm looked very possible was the Nottingham Chess Foundation Invitational last year until a dramatic twist in his game against Hebden. This event just finished certainly seems like the closest he's been.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 8:27 amJonah won the tournament which is a decent achievement but narrowly missed the norm

"Tim Spanton was equal second in the over 65"
Well done Tim - those tie-breaks usually work out badly...
