They were 2 of my 8 to watch out for. ( boards 13 and 25). Indy against Ameet was another, but Ameet turned it around in the end.

Jude Shearsby was another - Black v Rich Palliser, but Richard seems to be hanging on now after escaping from -6 earlier. Another of my 8 was Elise Dicen to beat John Richardson, which she did brilliantly.

See above (Adams is really the second seed, although showing on top board. So it the usual black - white - black pattern according to seeding).

Eggleston lost but Kanyamarala v Merry is about to be drawn. Doubtless White was winning but not at all as easily as the computer assessment suggested. I am still very impresssed by Kanyamarala, who looks like the clear favourite for the women's title (is she the defending champion? I forget).

Mickey's July 2024 FIDE rating is 18 points lower than It was in the July 2019 list, five years ago. I don't think we need to worry about him.

I had a solid, unspectacular win against a young opponent I knew nothing of. The morning of game-inputting for the Penrose event paid off.

Cheers Jonathan - altogether my bunch scored 3.5/8 despite the 270 point average rating defecit. I know how good those kids are because they stole my rating off me!

I found the game on board six quite entertaining. As soon as Ameet got in d3-d4 though, I felt he would not lose, whatever the engine thought.

I suppose so. Still, I'll stick with it - easier than predicting the winner of the Open itself!
