This election was maybe a belated sign that their power is finally waning, and the new government will hopefully act accordingly.Paul McKeown wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:39 pmOf course, this will not stop a miasma of ridiculous bile pouring out of the usual orifices of the Fourth Estate.

Are we still keeping up this charade of classifying every policy and manifesto commitment by where it would have sat in the French revolutionary parliament of the 1790s?

The UK's sovereign debt rating was downgraded three times during those 14 years of misrule, something that had never happened once before under any previous government since the ratings were first instituted. I imagine that RR will do everything humanly possible to avoid ever seeing the sovereign debt rating downgraded, rather than the previous approach of the public schoolboy chancellors chortling and stuffing NAO reports down the back of their short pants as they headed off to Moody's or S&P's to get a jolly good thrashing.

Implementing the rest of the recommendations of the Leveson report would be goodMatt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:51 pmThis election was maybe a belated sign that their power is finally waning, and the new government will hopefully act accordingly.Paul McKeown wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:39 pmOf course, this will not stop a miasma of ridiculous bile pouring out of the usual orifices of the Fourth Estate.

I'm also a bit reluctant to join in on political threads. But just to note, I suspect chess funding is below RR's pay grade. A relatively small amount within the discretion of a department. Chris Bryant's opinion as DCMS minister probably more important.

That is a perfectly reasonable point.
I think that Thangam Debbonaire, who would have got the post had she not lost her seat, is a chess player. Not sure about Bryant tbh.

Just to add that I look forward to seeing the business of governing the UK being treated with the seriousness and commitment it deserves, instead of as a glorified Oxford Union debate.Paul McKeown wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 4:08 pmThe UK's sovereign debt rating was downgraded three times during those 14 years of misrule, something that had never happened once before under any previous government since the ratings were first instituted. PS: in the interests of balance, how about posting a win by RR?

I do get the feeling that Rachel played a mean advanced French.
Politics on the forum, yawn.
