I thought they did an excellent job last year, most enjoyable.

I'm hoping to pay a visit as a spectator towards the end of the main championship. Can anyone confirm that spectators are welcome? And is it okay to take photos for the first 5 minutes of the round?

If I should happen to be there for the Friday evening Masterclass and/or Quiz, can I join in?

I did check the website, but couldn't clarify any of these points.

Entitlement to play in the British Championships
Only players who fulfil one of the following criteria shall have the right of entry to the Championship sections of the annual congresses -

a. British Citizenship, or
b. British Overseas Territories Citizenship, or
c. Citizenship of Ireland, or
d. not less than one year’s continuous ordinary residence in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the championship in question, or
e. not less than one year’s continuous ordinary residence in Ireland ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the championship in question, or
f. not less than one year’s continuous ordinary residence in the Channel Islands ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the championship in question, or
g. not less than one year’s continuous ordinary residence in the Isle of Man ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the championship in question

Bit tough on anyone who spends Jan - Jun in the Channel Isles and Jul - Dec in IoM and has done this for the last 20 years. They don't qualify!!

Malcolm Pein told me several months ago that Nikita Vitiugov had moved from Spain to East Anglia and would be joined there by his family. Malcolm also told me a few weeks ago that NV would be eligible to enter the British in 2025.

Leicester player H E Atkins won the second event in 1905, and still holds the record for the most championship title wins – nine wins from eleven appearances between 1905 and 1925.

That rather overlooks Rhyl in 1969 when Penrose won it for the tenth time.

Play is underway in some of the side events. The main championship starts tomorrow, with 4 elite (2600+) players listed (Howell, Adams, Jones, McShane) so we could get a keenly contested event at the top. My money is on Adams, again, but I expect it to be close.
