Only just catching up with this. I remember Graham from long long ago, back in the days of adjournments, drawing a game with Tony Miles where he had clearly worked very hard on the adjourned position - maybe even the British at Chester in 1979? Around then. I was impressed as a teenager by his intensity and determination. Did he even hold R & B v R, or am I making that up?

Simon -yes indeed he played many a game for the Top Lancashire County team-and I always knew our Top Surrey Player was in for a stern test. Graham was a very good chess player-indeed amongst the best Amateur players in U.K. chess for a period of at least Forty years.
He was also a nice guy and quite humble too!
