Re: Budapest Spring Festival 2024
Today Bodhana ( doing well on 2/4 ) comes up against the South African Jack Rudd. I don't believe that game can be viewed.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Re: Budapest Spring Festival 2024
Bodhana has reached 4/8, an excellent 2276-rated performance against decent opposition, and has so far gained 85 Fide points. She now needs a draw as Black in tomorrow's ninth and final round against GM Thanh Trang Hoang, Hungary's No1 woman, for her second WIM norm.
Not easy, let's see if she makes it.
Budapest shows only the top 20 games live. However, one of those will be Board 15 where GM Dan Fernandez, who has recovered from a slow start with three successive wins to reach 5.5/8, looks to have another winnable game against a 2430-rated IM.
Round 9 starts at 9am BST.

I didn't think a norm was possible with her having only played 1 GM and 1 WGM as well as 5 FMs. Is there a loophole I'm not aware of?Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 10:22 pmBodhana has reached 4/8, an excellent 2276-rated performance against decent opposition, and has so far gained 85 Fide points. Mea culpa. However, she has apparently passed 2200 during the tournament so has now qualified for the CM title.

According to this report: https://www.chess.com/news/view/9-year- ... 300-playerLeonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 7:58 amShe has apparently passed 2200 during the tournament so has now qualified for the CM title.
.In March, the 2013-born Argentinian became the youngest player to ever break 2200 at nine years and three months
Wiki says her birthday is March 2015 - Has Bodhana now broken this record?

Yes, great news on the rating front. It is very unlucky to have played 5 FMs (all rated 2288+) but not have a norm chance but another impressive performance all the same.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 7:58 amMea culpa. I'm not sure if this is true, including 4NCL results. She's certainly in excellent form though and gaining valuable experience against strong players in every event.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 7:58 amMea culpa. I really cannot raise any interest in this.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 7:58 amMea culpa. However, she has apparently passed 2200 during the tournament so has now qualified for the CM title.
I was very pleased with my own CM title because I knew it was almost certainly the limit of my achievement. Why should Bodhana care about such a lowly target? I hope that when she becomes a GM in a few years, even that will be just a milestone on a path to greater things.

Alex H advises me that her peak rating at this event was 2196 and the last round loss drops her down to 2190.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 11:25 amI really cannot raise any interest in this.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 7:58 amMea culpa. Who is right, Alex H or ChessKid? They can't both be!

Until the July rating list is published it's just speculation anyway.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 12:46 amhttps://x.com/ChessKidcom/status/1796163564773765539LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 3:09 pm

2110 +11.6 = 2121.6
2121.6-8 = 2113.6
2113.6 + 27.2 = 2140.8
2140.8 +11.6 = 2152.4
2152.4 -8.8 = 2143.6
2143.6 +28.8 = 2172.4
2172.4 +10.8 = 2183.2
2183.2 +12.4 = 2195.6
2195.6 -5.2 = 2190.4

Bodhana will get there soon enough, the main thing is that she's progressing and hopefully enjoying her chess
