I am no politician, I am a chess player
I dabble in politics its fair to say but if I thought my opinions actually held weight in ordinary peoples lives i would run a mile and hide under a rock. I am not Machiavellian, i see myself as having core beliefs but my choice of hobby has become a way out of the humdrum and stressfull role of paid employment(my illness has struck me down everytime i have tried to work) but I have a hobby in Chess to save me and I take the study, history, culture , play and community of chess very seriously., long may chess reign in my life.

Hello Simon, nice to talk to you, yes i find its amazing how non-controversial traditional politics of our grandfathers and fathers has become so controversial in the modern times and media.Simon Rogers wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 10:20 amWelcome to the forum Alan.AlanLlewellyn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:50 pmI dabble in politics its fair to say but if I thought my opinions actually held weight in ordinary peoples lives i would run a mile and hide under a rock. as for chess politics its well known Stalin saw the opportunity to influence the wests intellectuals with it, I am one of those that think resistance is never futile to that 'mission'.

My next tournament is up in the air, with the cost of living crisis cutting into my wallet and i have a gambling problem as well, i was down to play in the northumberland congress and have booked a hotel in northampton for the rapidplay there -both look unlikely with the hole in my finances.Simon Rogers wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 11:29 amYeah, I was wandering about that.AlanLlewellyn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 11:18 amyou may or may not have wondered what the tigger on my profile picture is about, Janice my ex was mad about whinnie the pooh and said my personality was similar to tiggers so i used it.Simon Rogers wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 11:07 am

My next tournament will probably be Scarborough Congress at the end of October.
Why not join Trevor etc and play at Scarborough?

Re: I am no politician, I am a chess player
I have always wanted to go to Scarborough and enjoyed the tournament(last year when i finally made it) though i never do well there BUT didnt go before, because of the road and rail links there are atrocious and the 5 hour journey of hell i had getting there put me off going again. Also with the lack of a decent hotel chain and lack of money means i wont be going back in a hurry.
