Post by Simon Rogers » Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:09 pm

The sad news has recently been announced that Serbian WGM Katarina Blagojevic has passed away at the age of 78.
Katarina was born on 31st October 1943 in Belgrade.
She shared 4th-5th place in the Women's World Chess Championship Candidates Tournament in 1964.
Katarina was also a three-time winner of the Yugoslav Women's Chess Championship (1961,1972,1974) and won a team silver medal and bronze individual medal at the Women's Chess Olympiads in 1963 and 1966, respectively.
She became a WGM in 1986 and sadly died on 15th November 2021.
Her two younger sisters, middle, future WIM Ruzica, in the late 1960s soon followed in the early 1970s with younger sister Gordana, who also became an WIM. Each sister won a Yugoslav Women's national championship.

Her maiden name (and those of her siblings) was Jovanovic.

They were followed by the Khadilkar trio from India, before (of course) the Polgars became the most famous chessplaying sisters of all.
