Will you be advising Malcolm to make himself available, John?

One point I noted was this
There is huge potential. While ECF membership fluctuates around 10,000, the number of English based players on the major chess servers is over 1 million.
Citation needed. Don't many players take part on more than one server? If say the average is three and a bit, that reduces the count to around 300,000. Also rather than count members, wouldn't it be better to count rated players as well as participants in unrated junior competitions such as the Chess Challenge and CSC internal school events? He'll be telling us there are 600 million worldwide players next.

But to revert to a theme I've been going on about for years, if you demand an ECF membership payment for a year as a condition of participation in just one event, why isn't this hostility to new players rather than a welcome?

Malcolm needs zero advice from me not that he would seek it in any case.

Nor has Mike sought my advice for the same reasons.

What makes you think I have useful advice to offer either of them?

I would hope that there was no need for a contested election.

what about his role as Fide Delegate?
Your point is what exactly?

Being FIDE Delegate does not stop MBP being Director of International Chess.

Are you suggesting it should?

I'm sorry. I thought it was Malcolm, Tim, Chris, Sue - and John too.

I continue to be puzzled by all this 'no need for a contested election'.

To me, this seems tantamount to the very young Nigel Short asking one of his opponents if he would like to resign.

I think this dates back to when Phil Ehr was Chief Executive. He spent time phoning round those candidates that he didn't favour asking them to withdraw from the elections.

I kind of get that, if it's a challenger getting those unwanted calls; but directed towards an incumbent, it smacks of impertinence.

I think those have already been delivered.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Indeed they have, both publicly and privately.

All the same, I am pleased to see the gloves being put back on.

I assume that this is either a Johnny Cash or Adrian Mole or even Sooty/Sweep reference from Angus.

Who knows....

My questions to Malcolm would be;

If he wins the election what changes would club and junior organisers such as myself begin to see?

Known associates of his have made personal attacks on Mike Truran in blogs/ forum posts relating to the election. Will Malcolm condemn these attacks and, if not, why not?

Is he proposing any governance reforms to the ECF, particularly with regard to council?

Without wanting to stoke this particular fire I thought it might be a reference to former ECF forum contributor Sue Dunham.
