£2,000 first prize at southend? That's serious! Have they perhaps abandoned their 8 player round robin event?

Re: Future FIDE rated events
Lawrence, thank you for this useful information service.
The Jack Spigel Memorial Tournaments were sponsored by Jack's nephew, Cliff Stanford. I understand that it was always Mr. Stanford's intention that there should be five such events and the last of these took place in 2009.
This year Southend have a new sponsor, Insight Strategic Associates. I imagine that this is the reason they've been able to increase their prize fund substantially.
Just to clarify. The Open and the Major are FIDE rated. The Intermediate and the Seniors are not.Loz Cooper wrote:Surrey Chess Congress 2nd-5th April 2010

It's not taking place, but it's not a case of Southend having "abandoned" it.Jonathan Rogers wrote:£2,000 first prize at southend? That's serious! Have they perhaps abandoned their 8 player round robin event?

Thanks for that. It is an excellent first prize though - one might expect to see some foreign GMs paying us a visit.
