Armenia must now be nervous with Russia in the next round.

Mick, I thought if we finished 3rd, we would play the second placed team in Group D but I have no idea where I saw that.
Sorry John, realise I read the groups wrong on TWIC

China v Ukraine and Hungary v Germany?

Huge disappointment against Romania. Losing 3.5-2.5 with the ever reliable Mickey coming a cropper. Now even a win against Bulgaria will not be enough because Romania will presumably be ahead of us on tie breaks even if they lose 6-0 to Russia.

Just the one very slim chance that Egypt might draw or win against Armenia.

So slim, David, that I discounted it!

Unlike Mickey to be the most culpable but even he is not a robot and keeping absolute control of such positions is not so easy at speed.

Oh well, at least the win against Armenia raised the interest for a while. Can we finish with a win for fourth? Bulgaria are playing this without their two former world champions, could you imagine us doing that (!)

So, the now traditional 1-5 score. Given that this is likely to be the England team's only international event in 2020, it is disappointing that probably only Jovanka and Gawain played to near their best standards. Others seemed underprepared.

ah well, practically every thing I have been writing this weekend has been wrong, other than the general theme of this format not suiting England. Sixth is a touch disappointing, but nothing more.

Was Martin Petrov really the junior player for Bulgaria?? He seems to have been around forever.

Didn't Howell do quite well too? (I haven't checked).
