Re: FIDE Online Olympiad 22 July to 30 August 2020
Away from the cheating, Ireland qualified earlier this morning from Group A.
Scotland are playing round 8 RIGHT NOW, games for me a better watch on Chessbomb https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2020-fi ... n-3-pool-b than on the Fide site.
It's touch and go in the last two rounds as five teams are still in contention. Scotland need to win big against UAE and Chinese Taipei and even then might not qualify. 2-2 against UAE at the moment with two games left.
UPDATE Scotland beat UAE 4-2 and are now fourth. However two of the teams ahead play each other in round 9 so Scotland will qualify barring an upset failure against Chines Taipei.
Watching the Olympiad is a very user-unfriendly enterprise in contrast to the Carlsen events though these of course have far fewer games.

I think we play from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th.
Again the top 3 go to the next stage. On paper England and Hungary look like favourites for 2 of those spots.

We start with a good win (5.5-0.5) albeit in a one sided match v Mexico

looking good v Argentina too, Jovanka being won straight out of the opening. (5.Nc3! is known to be a good move in that line of the London: I won a quick game with it in 4NCL myself, though I had to find the move over the board).

A somewhat eventful match, having to win the final two games to scrape home 3.5-2.5.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 6:19 pmlooking good v Argentina too, Jovanka being won straight out of the opening. Another tight match in round 3 ending with another 3.5-2.5 victory. An impressive result for Scotland, beating Montenegro 4-2.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 7:10 pmA somewhat eventful match, having to win the final two games to scrape home 3.5-2.5.

It's not so easy to follow all the games. Best way I've found it to go to Chess.com/tv and then click the link for the England match (currently ENG-MTN)

There only seems to be one game live (from all five matches) on chesscom.tv whereas on chessbomb you can follow all six games (currently ENG-SCO with computer analysis.Thomas Rendle wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:35 pmIt's not so easy to follow all the games. I'm watching all 6 on Chess.com via the ENG-SCO link.
Edit: just checked and you do need an account for that though.
