BCF Book of the Year 1990

Post by Catherine Glynn » Wed Jun 03, 2020 6:14 pm

Does anyone know which book which won this ?

I can't seem to find a list of past winners online which go back that far.

A customer has informed me that 1989 went to Winter's book on Capablanca and 1991 to Dvoretsky's Secret of Chess Training.

Thanks.

I consulted the BCF 1989 - 1990 yearbook and found no reference to Book of the Year.

John Saunders probably knows.

The 1990 prize was awarded to "Capablanca : A Compendium of Games, Moves, Articles, Correspondence, Illustration and Other Rare Archive Material on the Cuban Chess Genius Jose Raul Capablanca 1888-1942" by Edward Winter.

That would have been some book cover/title page.

Without repeating Alex's long list, it looks as if the BCF decided on an award covering a typical chess season as shown 1990/1; 1992/3 for a period.
The award to Edward Winter was noted in September 1990 as the 1990 award however it probably should be for 1989/1990?

There is an award missing from the list namely for 1991/2 which was "Dynamic Chess Strategy" by Mihal Suba (1991) ISBN: 9789056916299
