Again all understood, but its not like the actual chess has been notably low-quality.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:33 pmThere seems to be a growing clamour for this idea but I agree with David Howell who thinks Radjabov will be a couple of years older and he really should get his chance in this cycle. Not just him mind you, this tournament was a nightmare for Ding Liren with Wang Hao and Grischuk not faring well and probably have lost their best chance of winning the tournament. Kramnik has just been on Russian TV and said:NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:10 amThat would at least call his bluff.IM Jack Rudd wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 9:38 amGormally has suggested the perhaps less disruptive solution of giving Radjabov an automatic place in the 2022 event.
"I wouldn't be able to play in such conditions. The problem isn't even getting infected-these are young, healthy people but they read & watch what's happening eg Sasha has children, all have parents in the risk group & are worried. It's not clear how you can play normally".

So are they all going to be able to get home, will their countries allow them back in?

Why don't you ask Sutovsky directly?Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 2:48 pmSo are they all going to be able to get home, will their countries allow them back in?
"Dear friends, you may like or dislike what we are doing - you are welcome to criticize. But two important things: do not base you opinion on the google-translated text. And do not rely on the sources with less than credible reputation. You are welcome to ask directly - we share details and reasons openly with the entire chess community. Thank you."

And if postponement was unavoidable, it can be argued that the halfway stage is the optimum time to do it.

well, utter shambles it is, and grossly irresponsible of FIDE ... at the same time those of us (including myself) who still took an active interest in the games played under the (well known) conditions are not in a great position to lead the criticism.

Yes, like different 4NCL weekends.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:31 pmI know this isn't important, but do they rate the games in the first half, and thus the second half starts eventually with different ratings?
Norms are more complicated, but that doesn't apply here.

Radjabov had his chance and decided not to play, I don't see why he should be given another chance this year. All credit to Grischuk for speaking his mind about the situation, it would have been good to see the other players doing likewise.

Re: Candidates Tournament 2020
He had the chance to play an event which was most irresponsibly held and clearly subject to a risk of disruption whch eventually came to pass, yes - does not taking that really have to be held against him?!
Denying him anything in recompense would look like a childish refusal to admit that he was right all along

Sorry, I thought I'd read somewhere that Alex M was involved but on reflection this may have been in a more remote capacity.
I have been reliably informed that he is safe and well.

I'm not holding anything against Radjabov, but you can't unplay the games that have already been played. Are you suggesting that all of MVL's games be discounted and Radjabov plays the 7 others before the event is restarted? Danny G's solution is obviously the way to go.

Not so obvious to everyone

Hi Guys,
I was never in Russia but only at the end of a phone line. I was a reserve for the Appeals Panel if there had been a dispute involving Giri.
I'm pleased to say that my mobile phone, having been switched on for a record length of time, is now back in its normal dormant state.

I misread you, apologies - you only said that he should not play "this year".Mike Gunn wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 4:52 pmI'm not holding anything against Radjabov, but you can't unplay the games that have already been played. As to what should be done for Radja now, that is still anyone's guess. There are certain logical problems to qualifying him automatically for 2022 as well. Maybe monetary compensation is the best that can be done.
