Alex Holowczak has done all the draws on his own copy of Swiss Manager, and came up with all the same pairings for Hou that the tournament did here, which I think is good evidence that the pairings were not fiddled.

At least one other person has replicated the pairings for the entire tournament and only spotted that they've been using the rule that you don't pair ISR against IRI. Other than that and some comments about rounds 1 and 5, the pairings were replicated.

Given the perceived wisdom that pairings are "random" and thus playing 7 women out of 10 is an anomaly, arbiters and perhaps FIDE have work to do in explaining how pairings actually work.

Gibraltar I imagine would like to retain its relative independence, but as an ECF Director, Alex could make an official ECF statement that he'd validated the pairings as having been generated by one of FIDE's officially approved pairing engines. In this case the arbiters in Gibraltar can plead guilty to computer assistance in their pairings.
