I must say i'm a bit confused about all this exposure the sponsors are apparently expecting. I've gone on the official site and watching the games i'm none the wiser as to who the sponsors are.

You might think that those sponsor do not really want to appear on an very unstable website run by a company that is upsetting their potential advertisement targets.
In any case, the official event website http://moscow2016.fide.com shows "Tashir Group" as only sponsor (apparently a Russian real estate group according to wikipedia).

Caruana V Giri is fascinating don't you think?

Yermo's view is that Caruana blindly followed a line which his computer said was better for him, then couldn't work out what he was supposed to like about his position. It's true that he does seem to have struggled to find any coherent plan.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the key to the whole thing, because it is probably sourcing from there that the other sites were relying upon as their defence against any ban. Agon's case is that it is not possible to source the moves other than from their site, and the Norwegian outsourcing is a massively loophole that they had initially overlooked.

They seem to have fixed that loophole, at least temporarily, because the NRK site is still not updating.

Indeed! Of course if everyone is broadcasting they can all claim that they are sourcing themselves from one of the others anyway Certainly nobody would be sourcing from the official site out of choice, so impossible is it to follow!

It seems current thinking after 1. e4 is that White's best bet is to get a poor position in the 4.. d3 Bc5 anti-Berlin and go from there.

The ICC commentary is usually excellent. They've also been having problems getting the moves though.

What are AGON achieving by pursuing this course of action? They're just making it much harder for people to follow the sport they are trying to promote and get advertisement for.
