They check for the @ and the finishing letters, but not the rest, as how could you? Well e-mail people and make them reply of course, and then that sort of service would be very useful.

If they did manage to collect unique email addresses from every visitor, even if fake, that would give a good handle on how large or more probably how small their audience actually was.

It does occur to me that their not validating e-mail addresses does make all of the bluster in the T&C even less enforceable than otherwise Pretty trivial to mask your network address, so how could they possibly track?

A friend recently did the same thing, playing football competitively at an age when he should have known better. Not nice.
