Press release from Grand Chess Tour/Altibox Norway Chess
Altibox is a new name, is it not?

Doesn't this reduce the "Grand Chess Tour" to just two events?

A new sponsor announced on December 21st.

I believe so but no doubt further announcements will follow.

A fibre optic, cable TV and Broadband provider in Denmark and Norway, it would seem.

Very interesting - weren't they trying to add a tournament in Indonesia to the Grand Tour? Be a bit strange to add a Rapidplay event in France (Corsica possibly?) to classical events in St Louis & London
Any postings on here represent my personal views

Yes, I'd heard something about Indonesia being added, possibly next year. From the link I posted earlier it sounds as though the Norwegians want the tour built on tournaments with commercial sponsorship as opposed to relying on wealthy individuals. Not being part of the tour also allows them more freedom in who they invite and their prize structure etc

There is a follow-up Press Release from the Grand Chess Tour at http://www.chessdom.com/grand-chess-tou ... d-changes/.

One sentence thereof relates to me personally. I am of course delighted and honoured at the trust which the Grand Chess Tour have placed in me.

Interestingly enough, when you go to the main altibox.no page, one of the images used is of Magnus Carlsen, albeit as a picture on a phone.

Moderators: Please could I suggest that all the posts starting with Lawrence Cooper's at 12.44 pm on 6th January be moved to a new thread called Altibox Norway Chess and Grand Chess Tour 2016.
"The GCT is pleased to announce the appointment of David Sedgwick as Chief Arbiter for the GCT in 2016."

Well done David! Was this the last straw for the Norwegians?

That hadn't occurred to me, but I wonder if you're right.

Thank you for the congratulations.

Congratulations David - does this mean you will be in St Louis (and any other locations where GT events take place)?

Maybe, but not necessarily.

Each event will continue to have its own Chief Arbiter.

I shall be required to be available to go to an event if so invited by the organisers of that event, or otherwise to be in a position to communicate by email, teleconference, etc, as may be necessary during an event.

Thank you for the congratulations.

Congratulations also, you've come a long way since the days of the Big Slick flood :)
