Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for us today, and to cap it all I'm off to the dentist tomorrow morning as I was in agony all day.

Can I add Cheddleton's congrats to Adam Hunt, Steve Barrett and James Adair, and also to Sven Zeidler of Abergavenny for drawing with someone 300 points above him. Along, unfortunately, with what our opponents did to us, this kind of thing is what the Euro Club Cup is all about.

Round 2 team pairings (not boards) are up.
Blackthorne have a good pairing against a Finnish team who are mostly in 2100s but have a 2600 GM on top board.
That should be good news for Adam Hunt chasing a GM norm, especially if he doesn't lose.
The team should win and all get titled opponents for round 3.

Cheddleton will play an all-titled Italian team whose names are not familiar; likely to be a tight match.

White Rose play a Macedonian team who are all below 2200.

Great effort from Adam. I was amused by the following computer line after 21...Ne1 22. Rd1 Qe7 23. Rd8 Qxd8 24. Qh6+ Kg8 25. Qg6+ Kh8 26. Qh6+ Kg8 27. Qg6+ Kh8 but it doesn't change the result.

A tough day for my team today albeit some good performances against much higher rated players.

Playing individuals out of position can help where some people are seeking norms (playing the odd 2700 doesn't harm the averages, as there is no upper limit in the regulations!), or in some circumstances can arguably make teams more competitive (although in other circumstances it can result in matches being lost which would normally be won comfortably with a 'conventional' board order)

Board order is fixed at the start of the competition and isn't subject to any order of strength or order of rating. Whatever reason they have the order will apply throughout the tournament.

It looks as if they showed the usual round 1 contempt for weaker teams by giving their top boards the day off.
