According to chessbomb's Stockfish, Black's 44 th move was an error, losing a pawn or equivalent.
The current position looks very unhealthy for Black, with his King in no position to stop the g pawn.

It's not clear from Chess24/Chessdom what Karjakin played at move 57 or whether Svidler resigned immediately after 56...Rg2. We expected 57 Ke6 but Chess24 briefly showed 57 Ke4 (which would only draw). That must be because the White K was put there to signify victory.

According to ChessBase, White played 56 g6 and then Black resigned but perhaps that's because they are not sure. I think Karjakin did play a 57th move and Svidler then resigned immediately. The white K was put on e4 and the chess24 engines started showing 0.00 and the result 1-0 at the same time until somebody intervened. I hope an official clarification will be forthcoming.

I was watching on Chess24 and on my screen saw Ke6 (very briefly)and then Ke4 (slightly longer) and then neither.

You might have thought this technology could have been refined by now so that bogus "final" king moves don't appear anymore?

Svidler has clearly been consulting those English club players
I've always found this stuff to be oddly drawish somehow.
Karjakin's mental strength is clearly something else.

After 3 straight losses, Svidler has now won his must-win game - I have no idea who is going to win the World Cup now

Well also trending a tiny bit towards farce towards the end of that game.....
Absurd of course but you almost think it'd have been kinder to the players to toss a coin!

An hour ago Svidler looked like a somnambulist with a death wish but now two wins in a row!
Next blitz at about 2.10 with Svidler "only" needing a draw with White. When did we hear that before?
