There was a bloke on the show Dinner Date called Adrian, last night who I believe (the other half had it on, I was more interested in eating my pasta ) claimed to have been the No. 4 junior in the country at one stage, he looked in his mid 40's, anyone got any idea who he is? He told his date he just plays online now and isn't very good anymore. He didn’t get the 2nd date anyway!

The Russia/Ukraine crisis illustrated first with a normal set and then with some bizarre moves on a giant set. Apparently, Russia (Black) moves first and gets about a dozen moves (beginning 1...h6 2...g6 etc.) before Ukraine gets a turn.

That is bizarre! Nothing to do with chess as it is played, but then you wouldn't really expect that, would you?

'The Greatest Knight: William the Marshal' presented by Thomas Asbridge.

I can't remember the precise timing, but somewhere in the opening half the presenter spends about 5 minutes looking at and talking in detail about chess pieces of the time (he looks at a carved ivory set from the period) and how the knights represented what Anglo-Norman knights of the 12th-century, the new emerging warrior class, looked like.

The interesting thing about that BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26785855 is that although Black makes many moves with no White response - he does not get appreciably the better game.
Could that prove to be a metaphor or just, by alliteration a mess?

There is a scene where two of the main protagonists play chess. It is difficult to see whether it is sensible.
