I'm receiving reliable reports that a 'merger' has been agreed between Liverpool league rivals, Atticus and Aigburth, to field joint teams, possibly under a new name, in the 4NCL this season. Neither has been competitive as a separate entity hitherto. But the 'A' team of a joint venture would be pretty strong over six boards.

+ hhmm, a new name indeed: Ferry Across the Maroczy, a choice which looks to have emerged sometime during the fifth pint

Not convinced about the name, but glad to see them back - we seem to be gaining critical mass and a better range of strength of teams too, so that may encourage others

Who was the geezer who came up with that name?

Maroczy? To come up with that name, you must have been in a bit of a bind.

Bradford DCA has decided to follow suit and enter a second team into Div 3 North in addition to the team that we have in Div 2.

I'm glad to see that Div 3 North is growing significantly and is hopefully proving some of the doubters wrong!

One possibility might be Merseybeats, or maybe Mersey Knights..etc I`m sure they will find something.
But great to see some new teams adding to the 4NCL Northern party.

Definitely. And I wasn't a doubter per se, mostly just pointing out it needed more teams and they realistically needed to come from the NW way rather than Yorkshire. Which seems to have happened :)

I suppose the next stage might be to persuade some of the more Northern teams in the main 4NCL 3rd division to drift North. The venues for the main third division won't help with that of course. Give it time perhaps.

I was told a couple of years ago that Scottish players have lots of opportunities closer to home, and those that were stronger were already playing 4NCL

Seemingly nothing (formal) stopping teams from even such exotic locals such as London entering :) A very liberal competition all round really.

Indeed, maybe Redworth, Shrigley and Buxton are more entertaining venues than Div 3 South?

Paul

How is it looking?

There are 10 confirmed teams already, with Holmes Chapel, Jorvik and yourselves hopefully to follow

Ooo, unlucky! Jutes of Kent have pulled out of Div 1 (alas) and Sambuca Sharks replace them. In turn, Poisoned Pawns go back into Div 2. The latter finished level on match points with Spirit of Atticus, but ahead by one game point. That was an expensive phone beep in our last match last season. Still, we're now next off the cab rank. On the other hand, a return to Div 2 this year would send our current planning into tailspin :?
