He's 14. He has one GM norm from 2022 so needs two more plus the 2500 rating.MJMcCready wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 8:20 pmGot result for him. Never really looked at Shreyas play before. He's definitely got talent. How old is he?

Shreyas lost to Harikrishna, but drew with Karthikeyan (2611).
His reward is his 6th GM in a row: Rauf Mamedov (2640) and the second-lowest rated of the GMs he has played so far...
Getting a lot of experience for his wild card entry!
And performing at 2590 even with 2/5!
I am presuming he could score quite low for a GM norm at this rate (and maybe not the full 11 rounds)?
19 players are within 0.5 points of the lead at the top. (26 players within 1 point of the lead.)

Not much chat here about the other games. Quite a lot going on and the planet is waiting for the Nakamura - Niemann draw to come up.
David and Jovanka are doing a good job. They are often taking into consideration their weakest viewers which is how it should be. Whilst pointing out a few games (touch move, blunders and some nice play by Nakamura) I made merry with them.

It ends with a tip of the hat to the two Ronnies.

Shreyas now has a 7th GM in a row (to be fair, almost the entire field is GMs, so I have been over-egging that).
Score groups now 8, 12, 26, 26, 20, 16 from the group on 4.5 down to the group on 2 points.

It's worth mentioning that all seven have been 2600+. He's still unbeaten with white +1=2 but has been a little unfortunate to face his two highest rated opponents with black (Sarana & Harikrishna). Ironically, his round 7 opponent has the same record as Shreyas with both colours.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 1:05 amShreyas now has a 7th GM in a row (to be fair, almost the entire field is GMs, so I have been over-egging that).

It must be really good experience though
I know he needs the required performance level for a GM norm, but is there a minimum score as well? Given the strength of his average opponent, he can get a relatively high performance level while scoring well below 50%

His average including round 7 is 2650 so a minus one score (eg 4/9) would be fine. Without knowing his future opponents 2/3 for a 9 round norm seems a reasonable estimate.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 10:43 amIt must be really good experience though

Minimum score for a GM norm, or any other norm, is 35%. (I've seen a WIM norm fail on that basis.)

Does anyone know why on Friday the Open is starting at 11:30am and the Women's at 1pm, rather than both at the usual 2:30pm? It's not that they are squeezing two rounds into that day, nor is it the final round (when they start just 30 minutes earlier than usual), and there doesn't appear to be a change of venue.
