Moscow seems to have got the thumbs down on the FB thread. So perhaps its the FIDE venue of choice when they've got no choice - Khanty-Mansiysk?David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:07 pmHe has given would-be players and arbiters an extra five days' notice of the dates.

It figures that if they are scheduling people to travel on December 25th, it's either somewhere that doesn't close for Christmas, or, like Russia, celebrates it on a different date.

I don't understand your point. Whenever you travel to somewhere you also travel from somewhere else.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:46 pmIt figures that if they are scheduling people to travel on December 25th, it's either somewhere that doesn't close for Christmas, or, like Russia, celebrates it on a different date.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Yes that was a tweet from Tarjei Svensen to which Sutovsky responded on FB "I wouldn't advise to book your Moscow tickets yet" which again has left it up in the air. The official line is up on the FIDE site.

At least now they know to keep the dates free and not take up any other professional opportunities in the period.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:01 pmThis is a bit ridiculous, how can players plan at such short notice and they don't even know where they are playing?
Remember - the alternative is not to run the event at all. FIDE should be commended for trying to keep the event alive in 2018, but obviously the circumstances aren't ideal.

Further comments from Sutovsky on FB:
"Apologies for another small delay. Friends, or if I still may, colleagues - it is a very tough task to pull a decent World Rapid and Blitz with such a short notice.
We could confirm on everything and publish last week the regulations with a modest prize fund. But the idea is to have a really high-level event, and securing about 2MLN USD for its budget is a tough call. FIDE leadership has decided it is better to take few more days, but to ensure few hundred thousands more for the prize fund. We count on your understanding in this regards, and we do our utmost to finalize everything by tomorrow."
It's astonishing that something like this can be put together at such short notice over the festive period (we still don't have the dates or the city involved) with a sponsor that's willing to kick in possibly up to $2million.

Worthy of comment. Indeed, the whole future direction of FIDE deserves a new thread.Richard Bates wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 8:42 pmhttp://www.chessdom.com/dvorkovich-impl ... seoQvj3Z0Q
Re: Repercussions / Fallout from FIDE Elections?
There still seems to be, at least to me, a similarity been the two "Repercussions... " threads.
In this "Repercussion/Fallout from FIDE Elections" one uncertainty remains but just-in-time progress has been made as to where and when a forthcoming event will take place (see quotes below for details)...
While in my parallel " ...EU Referendum (Echo Chamber)" one there is still a great deal of doubt and uncertainty about when a much promised forthcoming event will happen.
