I assume that some of these won't play (Anand, Carlsen, Kramnik must be doubts)LozCooper wrote:FIDE World Cup – Qualifiers From Europe

Do we know how far down this list Mickey Adams is?

Re: FIDE World Cup 26th August - 21st September 2011
Not yet, but I'm trying to find out on his behalf. It seems somewhat odd to use the average of July 2010 and Jan 2011 and not ones inbetween. It's probably about the only formula that would have excluded him.

Re: FIDE World Cup 26th August - 21st September 2011
I imagine it's a hangover from when lists were 6 monthly and no-one has thought much about it
I assume his average is 2714.50 so he can't be far away

Re: FIDE World Cup 26th August - 21st September 2011
When you look at his ratings from September 2010 http://ratings.fide.com/id.phtml?event=400041 it does make their formula seem somewhat unfortunate for Mickey as he's been 2728, 2723, 2723, 2716 and 2726 since then.Mick Norris wrote:I imagine it's a hangover from when lists were 6 monthly and no-one has thought much about it

Re: FIDE World Cup 26th August - 21st September 2011
Allowing for those who have already qualified on the FIDE list, I have the 21st on the list as Dominguez Perez (who may be 1 of the Americas qualifiers in any event)at 2716 then Mickey next at 2714.50

Re: FIDE World Cup 26th August - 21st September 2011
Have they published the list somewhere?
Neither Anand nor his challenger are likely to play in the World Cup and I assume Carlsen is still not interested in FIDE events, so number 3 should be good enough

No, but both Michael and myself have been advised by the FIDE office that he is number 3 and we are both hopeful this will mean he is in the final list of qualifiers which should be available in mid June.Mick Norris wrote:Have they published the list somewhere?

Aren't we asking the wrong question? He voluntarily pulled out of the last World Cup, didn't he?

Not that I recall (although my memory may be at fault).Jonathan Rogers wrote:Aren't we asking the wrong question? He voluntarily pulled out of the last World Cup, didn't he?
He pulled out of the FIDE Grand Prix when they changed the regulations and the venues halfway through.

The way FIDE treat players I'm surprised far more people don't pull out of their events. I suspect the promise of a good pay-out is the only reason why most players suffer in silence.David Sedgwick wrote:Not that I recall (although my memory may be at fault).Jonathan Rogers wrote:Aren't we asking the wrong question? I assume this list of qualifiers has never changed, as Feller is still in it
I do note the deadline for signing contracts was 20 June, so do we know when the list of qualifiers is to be revised to reflect the fact that some won't have signed?
