Your County Needs You! 2025/26 Season
Players required for Yorkshire County teams!
The County season is upon us once more. As per previous seasons Yorkshire are entering teams in the u1450s, u1650s, u1850s, u2050s and Open. A top two finish is needed to get into the national stages.
We are now looking to raise teams for the season, with the first match expected to be in November. We are competing against Greater Manchester, Northumberland, Cumbria, Merseyside, Cleveland and hopefully Lancashire.
Anyone wants to play for the County, contact [email protected] if you want to be included. Anyone who wants to play in the under 1650s, contact Rob direct as well at [email protected]
Please note it is your grading as of the start of September. For example, if on the 1st September your grade was 1449, then you can play the u1450s and above. If 1451 then it would be the u1650s and above.
U1450s Captain: Andy Wainwright.
U1650s Captain: Rob Oldfield.
U1850s Captain: Rupert Jones.
U2050s Captain: Andy Wainwright.
Open Captain: Randy Donahue.
The county chess experience is fantastic. I look forward to meeting you during the coming season.

Prophetic. Especially if the Captains are the same.

Yes, playing at Crusaders in Blackburn; they wanted to take their time, so only the 2 teams until they find their feet again

Thank you Merseyside for hosting the Yorkshire u1850s today. Brilliant venue and people, with Liverpool one of my favourite cities. A great buffet was provided alongside chips and mayo.

Quick note that the YCA accounts have now been transferred post AGM, with Steve Burton stepping down after many years of hard work and service. Many thanks to Steve.
I am now the YCA Treasurer and look forwards to working with you all. Especially working with the spreadsheets, analysis and potentially Power BI. Geek heaven!

Write up for the u1850s. I have not properly edited though as I have been dragged all over by work and the kids. A big thanks to Aram and Greater Manchester for hosting. Aram - see you next week for the Holmfirth matches.

Nice report
Pressure on the buffet next week then! Historically they've not been very good.
That Cleveland U2050 team looks very handy.

Quite a nice buffet in the end - well done! And yes it must be hard.
The U2050's survived Manchester's mob of juniors. Close in the end. Mostly glad everyone got there with all that weather about.

Re: Your County Needs You! 2025/26 Season
Surprisingly close given we had a player pull out very late, and had to sub in the u1450 captain on bottom board
Will Yorkshire again not wish to put the u1450 in the National stages?
