Exciting news in Nottingham ... the chess table which was installed in a Sherwood car park and which was removed following adverse comments is now in storage awaiting re-deployment:

The cost is quoted as £1,400. Whether this includes installation isn't clear. It was then removed at a charge yet to be determined and is now safely in storage, perhaps also at some cost to Nottingham City Council. When a more suitable site is selected by the bureaucrats (as far as I know, local chess players have not been consulted) no doubt there will be further expense to install it.
Many will have heard about the financial plight of Nottingham City Council and therefore won't be surprised by this tale of mismanagement. I'm not sorry to have moved from NCC jurisdiction six months ago!
