"An interesting rule. I hope some guidelines will have been given to the players as to what that entails. Does playing a line as White which forces a repetition count as a 'meaningful game'? Does it matter if this happens after 12 moves say or 25, if it's all theoretically known? Not seeking to cause trouble, I'm genuinely interested. It's a pretty common tactic for a lower-rated player to use the threat of a repetition to 'force' an inferior line."

Well, yes - good question. One of my club colleagues would be very miffed if he were banned from playing the Latvian Gambit under this rule.

Well, playing black in a Caro-Kann Advanced variation, Ghasi managed to exchange Qs on move 8 but has not quite managed to equalise after move 15. Still all to play for in that one.

Edit - looks like Ghasi equalised on move 20. Adams will have to try to grind out an endgame or give a draw, it seems to me.

"1.8 All players agree to play 11 meaningful games of chess in order to achieve the best placing they can in the final results table, in the full spirit of the game and the FIDE laws of chess. Failure to do so may result in the Chief Arbiter deciding that all or part of the players fee or prize money be withheld. The Chief Arbiter’s decision will be final."

An obvious example being for a player who needs a draw in the last round to guarantee finishing in a particular position, where a win would make no difference and a loss would result in a lower finishing position.

Up against FA cup. Watching both. Was a 'Nice queen ending'. Good coverage. And Hastings weather.

Mark Hebden has punted the QP countergambit against Gawain. Not even the 3..Bd6 Elephant but the old fashioned 3...e4.

We've been given a little guidance, but I think the players are wanting to play within the spirit of the rules. A draw in the final round to secure a position is regarded as a 'meaningful' game.

ChessBomb looks like it's failed. Got the pairings for round 10 but no pieces on the boards! Have the arbiting team got any info, please.
