There was both a J B Hawson and a J B Howson.

They played each other at least once. You can find the score here, though it's hardly worth one's bother. (Howson won; no surprise there.)

The winners regularly appeared in the BCF Year Books of the time. Roland Payne, PC Girdlestone and even my friend Ken Wyld were amongst the prizes I think ..
