I was on Times Radio this morning to talk about the Chess Olympiad and chess in lock-down. There is no doubt that events like the Olympics, the Magnus Carlsen invitationals and sterling work by the ECF are all helping to raise the profile of the game. Exciting times!

I didn't realise that list existed. I've added a fair few references through the life of this thread. It probably is time for a separate thread.

Today's Daily Telegraph Review section has a chess quiz 'And that's checkmate'.
Nicely put together, 3 sections matching the 6 given answers with the questions. 6 book titles to match with their authors (disappointingly including The Castle and The Good Soldier along with 'chess' related titles such as The Return of The King and The Knight's Tale), 6 chess playing authors to match with their photos and the descriptions of 6 fictional chess games to match with the book title they occurred in.
All 18 answers spell out a description of chess by Blaise Pascal (gymnasium of the mind).
I think most of us who didn't cheat would have had to use elimination or work backwards from the final Pascal phrase to get some of the answers. (I cheated).

Sunday Times 6th September. Culture Supplement.
There is a section of readers comments with the TV Guide called You Say.

Chess, darts, bridge etc are games and shouldn't be included under the heading of Sport.

Snooker is almost universally classed as a sport, as is darts. There is, of course, genuine disagreement re chess and other board/card games.
