Thanks for the hot tip Simon! I've submitted an entry. Keep those tips coming! Lol
Here is another of my "hot tips".
Another OTB tournament that is going ahead.
Harrogate Chess Congress which was cancelled for the 25th to 25th September has been rearranged.
The new date is 23rd to 25th October.
Two sections: Major Under 171 and Minor Under 141.
You can use either January 2020 grade or July 2020 grade.
The Congress organiser is Noel Boustred.
It is on the ECF Calendar. With links and Noel's email address and mobile phone number.
The entry form says you have to bring your own protection equipment.

I've started a new topic for Harrogate Chess Congress in the Congress Diary Section. As I only have access to the forum from my phone I am unable to attach the links for the entry form and website.

I would be very surprised if that does ultimately go ahead.

Late September is definitely an a priori more promising time than those late October dates.

It's the start of half-term, but I assume you're thinking of something else Martin?

I think Noel moved Harrogate because Northumberland Congress was rearranged for 23rd to 25th September and the weekend of 23rd to 25th October became free because Scarborough Congress was cancelled.

Oops I mean 25th to 27th September for Northumberland Chess Congress. I've not worked out yet how to edit previous posts.

Maybe the fabled "second wave" might be in full force by then?

Well not full force but broadly, yes :(

The period from this Autumn through to when the vaccines start to roll out is at very high risk of disruption.

It would be really helpful if our government could provide a timetable showing when they intend to shut down the country.

As to the vaccine, I would prefer to inject myself with rat poison. At least we know what's in that.

You will probably not know.

Here is yet another of my "hot tips".
Another OTB tournament going ahead is:
Castle Chess Fareham Congress
25th to 27th September
Three sections: Open, Major Under 155 and Minor Under 115.
Congress Organiser is Tony Corfe.
There are strict hygiene protocols in place and numbers are securely restricted.
You have to bring your own chess set and there will be two chess clocks at each match.
There are more details on the Castle Chess website.

I rang Tony Corfe this morning and had a lengthy conversation this morning. He has sent details about hygiene protocols in his newsletter by email.
He has however informed me that the Castle Chess Dudley Congress scheduled for the 16th to 18th October has been cancelled.
After that there are no further plans for Castle Chess Congresses in 2020.
I'll start a new topic for Fareham in Congress Diary section.
