Gelfand lost with white, but seems more likely to win with black these days, making it a good start for Topalov who would qualify for the Candidates with a good result here

Grischuk's win takes him above Kramnik to 4th in the live rankings

Thanks for pointing that out Mick or I'd have missed it for a day or two.

Funny that both games should boil down to positions that are so nearly theoretical and yet not quite so no cigar.

Shift Kamsky's rook and king a square each and it's a draw not a loss. And if I'm not mistaken lose Black's d-pawn from the third round game and it could have ended up in a structure analysed by Hawkins in his book.

Mamedyarov beat Karjakin with black, to join him the lead with Grischuk

I assume that this tournament will be one that Gelfand throws away for the purpose of calculating his final score.
