Third Moderator

Post by Carl Hibbard » Mon Aug 08, 2011 6:45 pm

We are seeking a third moderator to help me and Jack spread the load a little

Please contact me via PM in the first instance if you feel that you would like to take the role on - it is a thankless job with no pay but don't let that put you off
Cheers

Moderation

Post by David Sedgwick » Tue Sep 13, 2011 6:22 pm

Hi Carl,

Have you got anywhere with finding a third moderator? (I can't post in that thread because it's locked?)

Could I suggest that additional moderation is badly needed to ensure that:

a) new threads are started in the correct section (and moved when this doesn't happen);
b) new threads are not started when the topic is already being discussed in another thread (and threads merged where necessary).

Dealing with the first problem will also help to deal with the second.

There's been another example this afternoon, which is why I've been prompted to post this now.

Rant over. Many thanks to both you and Jack Rudd for all your efforts.

I don't believe anyone has shown an interest

I am out of the country at the moment so the last month has had no general tidyup work from me sorry

I will be back shortly and will do some pruning then
Cheers

Strictly, I think David might be talking more about thread admin rather than moderation.

I'm making the distinction, because I don't think it would be appropriate for someone who posts as actively as I do on contentious subjects to moderate. (and given my Guardianista leanings, at least one regular would get a ban for almost every post :) ). But I'd be happy to assist with thread admin if Carl is still looking for help.

If posts are deleted because they duplicate comment already made in another thread, is that moderation or is it thread admin?

If it's the latter, then you're correct. I could bang on about moderation in the sense of removing inappropriate comment, but were I to do so my comments would probably need to be moderated. That wasn't the purpose of my previous post.

I am back now but it's going to take a long time for me to get through a little more than three weeks of stuff so please point me in a specific direction if needed

I am very pleased to welcome Sean Hewitt as the third moderator joining myself and Jack Rudd

Given the number of topics and posts now it has become increasingly hard to check for duplication and off topic discussions as well as the general moderation type jobs

It's a thankless task so my appreciation goes to Sean as well as to Jack who has been helping out for quite some time now :!:
Cheers

I'm looking forward to extreme moderation of game fee debates...rather like extreme ironing but less gruelling.

He never actually left just took a step back whilst I took on the majority of the role and since he is playing in London is perhaps a little quieter than usual

He is still part of the team

Huh!

Carl, Jack and Sean.

So to qualify for a mod you must have a four lettered surname.

Yours, overlooked again.
