I see that FIDE have made a payment to Mike Basman https://fide.com/news/696.

Pretty pointless as he is still bankrupt and no doubt the Official Receiver will take the whole lot.

Payment helps Mike - why place on SavetheUKCC. Mike may stand in the elections that were cancelled for 1 year..

Which elections are you referring to ? I've placed it on here because it's a natural follow-on from previous commentary on his circumstances.

A bankruptcy restrictions order was made against Mike in June 2018 for six years. This precludes him from being a local councillor, school governor and holding certain other positions. So he will not be standing for election.

Curiously we have

"In 1975 England contested a match over ten boards against France in Luton. Basman played Board One, ahead of future super Grandmasters Nunn and Speelman. "

I'm puzzled by this since Mike played on board 4. The team was

1. Mestel
2. Nunn
3. Whiteley
4. Basman
5. Webb
6. Speelman
7. Eley
8. Haygarth

were there two England-France matches both played in Luton in 1975 ?

There was an Anglo-Dutch match in the same year.

I'm quite sure that Mike is alive (he played in a Rapidplay in February). As a bankrupt he must inform the Official Receiver of any income received and the Receiver will take some of this. This would include the award from FIDE. I have no idea what would happen in an ECF election but bearing in mind the English Chess Federation is a limited company he would be debarred from being a director unless permission were granted by a court.

Mike remains a titled player.

What makes you think that his title has been removed?

All details are available on line from the Insolvency Service website so I am not revealing anything that is not in the public domain. A bankruptcy restrictions order was granted at Kingston-on-Thames County Court from 19/06/2018 until 18/06/2024.
