Hiccup at Gatwick this morning when the 555am EasyJet flight to Thessalonika developed a fault just before take off. We have changed planes with an approximate delay of 3 hrs.

8/16 in round 1, including some extremely tough opposition in the under 15s.

Good luck to all the players - the pairings for the next round for the G13 on the chess results website are a bit confusing - or maybe its just me :(. I think they list the round 9 opponents as its all play all? I think the next round opponents are listed under their individual names at the bottom of the page?

If I'd been in charge of pairing that tournament, I'd have given the Turkish girls PINs 1, 2 and 10. Not because I think they'll rig their results, but because it removes the possibility of anyone thinking they might.

Looks like a good win for Shreyas in round 5 of the U7 against the highest rated player in that tournament, a Russian player, with a 1444 rating (world ranked 12th for a player born in 2009 - not that ratings are that established in U7), he now moves into joint second in that tournament just half a point behind the leader.

I'm thrilled to see our U7s doing so well, hope they're having a good time.

I can confirm that they are both having a very good time. Fun and good results tend to go together in the U7 section.

What's with the constant smiley icons, John? Can't you just tell us whether we we should be smiley or grumpy about the round by round performance, rather than us having to battle through the detailed results on one of the more user unfriendly chess sites?
