Where is the venue and how do I get there?
The venue is Storey’s Field Centre, Eddington Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 1AA.
If travelling by car, the venue is a short walk (5 minutes) from the Madingley Road Park and Ride,
which provides free parking for the day.
The tournament will be held in the Main Hall. The room is very easy to find, simply turn right after
entering the centre and the entrance to the Main Hall is in the right corner.

What is the format of the games?
There are five rounds in total (see timings above). Each round consists of one game, lasting up to
around 40 minutes. Naturally some games will finish much sooner than this.
This is not a knockout tournament. Everyone will play in all five rounds. If you win your first game, you
will generally play someone else who won their first game. Similarly, if you lose your first game, you
will generally play someone else who lost their first game.
Once you have finished your game, please leave the position on the board (ie don’t reset the board
just yet) and come with your opponent to the front desk to report your result. Once you have reported
your result, please then return to your board and reset the pieces to their starting positions.
If at any point during the game you have a question (eg if there has been an illegal move), please
raise your hand and one of us will come over to help.
We will use chess clocks for all age groups. Please don’t worry if you haven’t used a chess clock
before – it’s straightforward and we will be on hand to help!

What prizes are available?
We have lots of prizes to play for!
In each year group (ie under 7, under 8, under 9 etc), there will be trophies for the top performing boy
and the top performing girl. The second and third placed boys, as well as the second and third placed
girls, will each receive medals.
Year groups are based on your age on 31 August 2024. A player who is 10 years old on
31 August 2024 will be in the under 11 category.
Please note that some year groups will be grouped together (eg under 7s and under 8s are likely to
be grouped together and therefore play some games against each other). Where this does happen,
there will still be separate prizes for the top performing players in each year group (ie there will be
prizes for the top performing under 7s and prizes for the top performing under 8s within the combined
group).
In the event of a tie for first place, the tiebreaker will be based on (1) head-to-head record and then
(2) sum of progressive scores.

Do parents need to stay?
Please note that parents do need to be present throughout the day to supervise their child in between
games. Children will need to leave the playing hall once they have finished their games and we are
unable to supervise outside of the playing hall.
We understand that parents of older players may be comfortable leaving their child unattended or in
the supervision of another adult and we leave this to parents to make their own decision. However,
parents/guardians should note that they are still ultimately responsible for their children at this event
at all times.
________________________________________________________________________________
Where can parents wait during rounds?
Parents are not allowed in the playing hall during the games. There is a waiting area in the foyer
immediately outside the playing hall with tables and chairs, where parents can wait during games.
________________________________________________________________________________
Are the games ECF rated?
The games will not be ECF rated for this tournament. In future we hope to make our events rated.

Photos
We will be taking photos on the day to help record the event and promote future events and activities.
If you do not give consent for your child to be included in the group photographs, then please let us
know by email.

Refreshments
There will be no refreshments available on site. However, there is a Sainsbury’s just across the road
from the venue and some cafes nearby. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments.
