A superb event (so I am told) concluded at Winchester College on Sunday with many parents telling me it was the best venue for junior chess they had ever travelled to.

One interesting statistic that we don't often discuss was that of the 204 original players to the event
37 gained a brand new ECF rating code which is a healthy sign (to me at least) that junior chess is thriving in England.
Also, a substantial number on top of the 37 were not current ECF members and therefore generated decent revenue for the ECF (funded by UKCC).
Roughly 600 rated games of Rapidplay chess were played and for many children this was their very first tournament. I hope Mike would be pleased wherever he is looking down upon us!
