Weekend Masterclasses for Juniors

Post by TimWall » Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:57 pm

Hi folks,
Together with IM Andrew Martin and GM Alexander Raetsky (Russia), I am organising a series of Weekend Masterclasses for junior players under the age of 18 (on 1/9/20), rated between 1000 and 2200. The first one is on February 13 & 14, the second is on March 13 &14, and the plan is to hold them monthly over the course of this year.
The schedule is 4 hours of coaching per day, plus training games. There is also a home study component before and after each weekend course.
Places are strictly limited to 36 students, so that the class sizes are kept to a maximum of 12 students per class.
Of course, because we are in lockdown, the Masterclasses are currently online on Zoom.
(We may expand to also offer Masterclasses for adult (over 18) players. For obvious reasons, it makes sense from a teaching perspective to hold these separately.)
If you know anyone who is interested in taking part in the February or March Weekend Masterclasses, they can get in touch with me and I will allocate places. Anyone may also write with enquiries to me at: timpeterwall [at] gmail [dot] com.

Promising junior players rated 1000 and above are welcome to take part in the 2nd Weekend Chess Masterclass on 13&14 March - 2 days of high-level, interactive online chess tuition led by experienced FIDE Trainers:
GM Alexander Raetsky (Russia)
IM Andrew Martin (England)
FM Tim Wall (England)

This follows our very successful 1st Weekend Masterclass in February, which was sold out with a full complement of 36 students attending and highly praised by both students and parents.

The 2nd Weekend Masterclass includes:
- 8 hours of group tuition over 2 days (maximum 12 students per group)
- 3 hours of supervised training rapidplay games in a King’s Indian thematic tournament – drawing upon lessons taught over the weekend. The tournament will be supervised on Tornelo.com by International Arbiter Adam Raoof and myself.
- The opportunity for extra tuition: Preparation materials, individual feedback & study recommendations for Premium students.

The 2-day course is being offered at £50 (or £30 if attending just one day).
For an extra £10 per day, Premium students will receive preparation materials before the weekend, and individual feedback and study recommendations afterwards.

We believe this course represents excellent value for students. It will prepare them for the return to serious, over-the-board play in the months to come, and help them to develop the independent learning skills and resilience they need to succeed at a higher level.

Entry is open to junior players (Under 18 on 1st September 2020) rated 1000 and above.

On completion of the entry form, applicants will receive details of how to pay by bank transfer. Preparation materials and Zoom login details will be sent on receipt of the entry fee.
