I am holding monthly junior events in Christchurch as well, getting kids into tournament chess, 16 kids in November, 25 in December, will see how the January one pans out! Outside the NZCF for now, unrated, but with some decent juniors competing.

Other than that there are no junior only events that I know of down South (apart from Interschools and school led chess), kids are encouraged to join the clubs when of a suitable strength.

The regional interschools events take place late in term 2 I think, plus in Christchurch in term 3 we should have an individual junior champs, a social teams event and a girls only event. Most regions will hold similar events, not all will be posted on the NZCF calendar.

Where you will also find "Albania wins 1st Francophone Online Chess Team Cup".

Don't ask.

IA Ying Wang runs the Summit monthly FIDE-rated junior rapids in Auckland. They are complementary to her well-organised coaching program; her club Summit was set up specifically to encourage junior chess. More junior events can be found on the Interschools tab of the NZCF website. The Intermediate (years 7-8) and Secondary (9-13) events in the North Shore (run by me) will be FIDE-rated (not the Primary - too many unrated new kids!). Other interschools events - including the Finals - are unrated.
