ECF Academy to close?

Post by John Upham » Wed Jul 27, 2022 3:54 pm

I'm informed (by parents) that there have been / will be changes in the management and organisation of the ECF Academy.

Does anyone have concrete details of what these changes are?

If I have missed announcements of these updates then I apologise for my incompetence.

I'm informed that the ECF Academy will cease to operate at the end of December 2022.

There are no plans to tender for continuance so I'm led to believe.

Anyone have any insight into this?

A Google search comes up with
https://www.delanceyukschoolschesschall ... -page-ecf/

It looks lke a rebrand to the name National Junior Chess Academy

with the tag
A chess training programme for ambitious junior chess players seeking to win competitions and represent the national team.
Part of the official English Chess Federation Junior Development Pathway

Thanks Roger and I had seen that prior.

Via the EJOG forum I was told by RW that it will cease in December not to be revived in the near future.

Why the surprise? April's consultation document on the Junior Development Pathway, discussed separately in this forum, clearIy stated that "Please note that the current ‘ECF Academy’ is managed by a single provider until 31/12/22. It is proposed from 01/01/23 the new model will apply organisations who meet the relevant criteria eligible to apply". A word seems to have been omitted there but the reference to a "new model" surely suggests changes are afoot.
