My grade has gone down from 168 in 2005 to 142 on 2008. That's 26 in 3 years. Is this a record?

It's not unusual. It's an extreme case of grade deflation. I'd not worry. Just sit back and wait for the new improved ECF grading formula. You'll be pushing 200 before long

I have seen examples of players giving up, moving abroad or moving to higher plain to get their rating up.David Robertson wrote:

Playing juniors will bring your rating down, so try to avoid them.
I played James Adair when he was 116, next year 150 and now 175!
