Happy 90th FM Michael Franklin!
This article was a real joy to put together and I would like to thank Ken and Dinah Norman for their help.
You will find interesting history of British chess from the 1950s through to the 1990s.
Hopefully much of this will be new. Two of MFs games not previously published.
Enjoy!

In the image below from 1978 SR seems extra pleased that he has given MF a scoresheet rather than a cheque!

Very sloppy journalism John.John Upham wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 12:24 pmIn the image below from 1978 SR seems extra pleased that he has given MF a scoresheet rather than a cheque!
I think that you will find that what Michael has in his hand is an adjournment envelope with the relevant cheque enclosed and not a scoresheet.
Those of us above a certain age remember that these acted as containers for sealed moves when not being used for their primary purpose, doubling as the envelopes that the organiser had forgotten to bring.

"He never kept the scores of his games" - tbh I have never understood this mindset personally.
