Happy Birthday Leonard.
The 1987 Revised Edition of Play Better Chess is one of my most treasured chess books. It was my second chess book that my parents bought for me when I was a junior.
Excellent tribute John.

Legendary Leonard Barden turns 91. His contribution to English chess is enormous - from the amazing 64 years of penning chess columns for Guardian to raising funds for hugely important chess projects in 1970ies. Mr.Barden was among first five recipients of FIDE veteran award.

91!! Wow, he must have seen pretty much the whole of 20th century chess (at least from the point where it got serious). I didn't know leonard had been around so long, guess there's always something new to find out about everbody
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I had assumed that the first thing that most people knew about Leonard these days was that he had been around for quite a long time... Perhaps not!Joey Stewart wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:02 pm91!!
