Gibraltar is somewhere we haven't heard much if anything being reported. On paper it could seal itself off, but is there too much dependence on people commuting to and from Spain?David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 16, 2020 3:07 pmThe Gibraltar Junior Chess Festival 2020, scheduled to take place from19th to 25th August, has been cancelled.

Re: Event Cancellation
Gibralter currently has had 176 cases, 174 recoveries and no deaths. 2 cases are outstanding. It has tested about 30% of its population.
It seems the vicinity of Spain has not wreaked too much disaster.

Re: Event Cancellation
Scarborough Chess Congress
Unfortunately, the Organising Committee of the Scarborough Congress has been forced to admit defeat in its efforts to hold the event this year.
We have been informed that the local authority will not make a decision on allowing venues like the Spa Centre to open before 1st October. The company in charge of the Centre will then have to confirm the financial viability of staging events before 2021, many users having already cancelled. That is almost certain to cause a further delay to an already tight schedule, even if it will be possible to stage the Congress.
With that timescale, and the many other uncertainties surrounding the event, it has been decided that it is in the best interests of all concerned that the decision to cancel is made now.
We apologise to our many regulars but circumstances are beyond our control. We look forward to returning in 2021.

Re: Event Cancellation
British Rapidplay
Due to covid 19 restrictions which will not expire before vaccine take-up exceeds 80% of the population, there will be no tournament in 2020.
The same venue as detailed below has been rebooked for 2021 on the same weekend in November, see above dates.
We are sorry it has come to this but these truly are circumstances beyond anyone’s control.
I expect the following to happen:
A vaccine will be approved by the end of 2020
As 60,000,000 people need vaccinating, in this country alone, it will take time to manufacture and distribute available stocks.
Medical professionals and high risk groups will have priority. It’s likely that these groups will require a 2nd dose.
Roll out to everyone will take months.

The Kilkenny chess congress (November) has just been cancelled.
IMHO it's not looking too promising for Bunratty in February either.
